ATRI SEEKS MOTOR CARRIER INPUT FOR SPEED DIFFERENTIAL STUDY
Phase One Research Analyzes Speed Governor Use

Alexandria, Va. –The American Transportation Research Institute is working with industry partners to analyze the potential safety impacts of speed differentials which may exist between cars and trucks on the road.  ATRI is investigating the role of speed differentials created by posted speed limit differentials, speed governors and excessive/illegal speeds in contributing to truck-car safety issues.  Preliminary data and analyses will be incorporated into a sophisticated model to better understand exposure issues and crash outcomes.

In Phase I of this study, ATRI is conducting a confidential survey to better understand the use of speed governors in the industry and the related safety impacts.  ATRI is seeking the participation of motor carriers that use or have experience with speed governors.  Survey responses will be analyzed, and carriers may be asked to participate in a follow-up survey.  The survey can be accessed online at:

http://truckline.com/SpeedGovernorSurvey.

ATRI is the trucking industry’s 501(c)(3) not-for-profit research organization.  It is engaged in critical research relating to freight transportation’s essential role in maintaining a safe, secure and efficient transportation system.
