ATRI TO SURVEY TRUCKING INDUSTRY ON BORDER EFFICIENCY ISSUES
Alexandria,
VA –
The American
Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) is currently working with
the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Service to identify
border crossing efficiency issues and solutions for enhancing
processing speeds and times. ATRI’s research is also documenting
the operational costs and benefits associated with using different
processing systems such as the Automated Commercial Environment
(ACE) Truck e-Manifest. The research, which precedes an expected
mandate of the ACE system, attempts to provide input into the role
that electronic processing systems might play in relieving border
delays.
As part of this
assessment, ATRI is conducting a national survey of motor carriers
currently involved in border-crossing operations to identify border
issues and opportunities.
All carrier
responses will be kept strictly confidential. ATRI intends to
integrate and analyze the survey responses with other research data
in a comprehensive report on border crossing performance measures
and program impacts. The surveys can be accessed at
http://www.truckline.com/atri/cbpsurvey.asp.
Spanish versions of the survey will be made available upon request.
ATRI is the trucking industry’s 501(c)(3)
not-for-profit research organization. It is engaged in critical
research relating to freight transportation’s essential role in
maintaining a safe, secure and efficient transportation system. For
